Regular parish life at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer offers members many opportunities to put their unique talents at the service of both their fellow Christians and the wider community.

In Worship

As a Lector, a registered parishioner has the privilege of proclaiming the Word of God at weekend Masses.  You will be asked to prepare thoughtfully, to proclaim the Scripture readings reverently, to be flexible in accepting assignments, and to be timely in fulfilling them.

As an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a registered parishioner has the privilege of assisting the priest-celebrant by distributing Communion at weekend Masses.  In providing this liturgical service, you will have the opportunity to renew your own faith in the Eucharist each time you say the words, “The Body of Christ.”

ways to get involved

As an Altar Server, young parishioners in Grades 5-12 have the privilege of serving at the altar at selected weekend Masses.  Initially, you will be asked to follow a period of instruction in order to become familiar with the ceremonies of the Church.  Reverent serving provides the opportunity to worship God and to assist with prayer of the whole congregation.

As a member of the acclaimed Saint Vincent Ferrer Chorale, one of the finest liturgical choirs in New York, you will join over twenty-five dedicated amateur and professional singers under the direction of Dr. Mark Bani, the parish music director.  From September through early June, the Chorale rehearses one or two evenings weekly and sings at the Sunday Noon Choral Mass.  The Chorale also assists at liturgical celebrations on major feast days, such as Christmas and Easter, and it performs periodically in special concerts. Dr. Bani describes this musical service as “a unique opportunity for growing in one’s faith through the profound expression of artistry in worship and wonderful camaraderie.” Interested singers are welcome to sit in on rehearsals.
